Iran’s Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh and Venezuela’s Transport Minister Ramón Celestino Velázquez reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties during a phone call, according to Iran’s semiofficial Tasnim news agency on Wednesday. The ministers discussed ways to counteract US influence and interference, with both nations expressing a desire to boost economic cooperation.
Nasirzadeh praised the Venezuelan people’s strong support for their government, crediting the armed forces with playing a key role in preventing Western interference, particularly after the country’s recent presidential election in July. He also offered Iran’s experience in resisting US actions, stating Iran was ready to share its insights with Venezuela.

Velásquez echoed these sentiments, calling for increased preparedness against what he termed their “common enemy.” Both Iran and Venezuela, both heavily sanctioned by the US, have built close economic and energy relationships in recent years to lessen the impact of these sanctions.
The ministers are co-chairs of the Iran-Venezuela Joint Economic Cooperation Commission, a body dedicated to advancing mutual interests in the face of external pressure.
