Esmail Kowsari, Deputy Chair of Iran’s National Security and Foreign Affairs Committee, was quoted in an Iranian newspaper as saying that Iran has pictures of Israeli bases and other restricted areas obtained from a drone launched into Israeli airspace earlier this month. “These aircraft transmit their pictures online, and right now we possess pictures of restricted areas,” Kowsair was quoted as saying. Israel shot down the drone after it flew 25 miles into Israeli airspace. The Lebanese Hezbollah movement, which is closely tied to Iran, claimed responsibility for the aircraft, saying the parts were manufactured in Iran and the plane had been assembled in Lebanon. Most of Israel’s airspace, with the exception of commercial air corridors, is restricted. Israel has threatened to bomb Iranian nuclear sites if Iran does not end its nuclear program, which Iran insists is for peaceful purposes only.
