Iran Sends Warships into International Waters to ‘Fend Off Foreign Threats’

Four Iranian warships have moved into international waters in order to demonstrate the “country’s high military capability in confronting any foreign threat on the country’s shores," according to Iranian Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, as quoted by the official ISNA news agency. The move comes on the heels of the successful test firing of a new long-range missile capable of reaching Israel and American military installations in the Middle East. The Iranian agency quoted the admiral as calling the deployment of naval vessels into international waters and the Gulf of Aden “historically unprecedented.” Sayyari said the move was "indicative of the country’s high military capability in confronting any foreign threat on the country’s shores.”
