Iran Stokes the Proxy War with Saudi Arabia via Yemen’s Houthis
The French foreign minister has confirmed what everybody already knew: Iran is supplying arms to the Houthis, who are fighting in Yemen. Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian on Wednesday addressed the possibility that Saudi Arabia would respond to a series of attacks by Tehran’s proxy fighters by attacking Iran directly. He told radio interviewers that because no political process has begun, the Saudis “feel regularly attacked by the Houthis who are supplied with arms by Iran.” Although the Iranians continue to deny arming the Houthis, the United States and others insist the evidence is absolute in refuting the Iranian denial. Seven missiles were fired by the Houthis into Saudi Arabia on Sunday killing one. On Wednesday, the United Nations Security Council condemned the attacks.
