Iran says it will receive new Russian S-300 air defense systems capable of intercepting incoming ballistic missiles at a range of more than 90 miles. The announcement was made by Defense Minister Mustafa Mohammad Najjar, who declined to say when the systems would be delivered or how many were included in the deal. Iran has already received 29 Tor-M1 air defense missile systems. The Russians have previously denied rumors of the sale of S-300 systems to Iran. The S-300 is state-of-the-art and according to experts would create significant risk and difficulties for the United States or Israel should either decide to move against nuclear sites.
