Reacting to the implementation of sanctions against Iran by the United Nations Security Council because of Tehran’s failure to end its nuclear development program, the Iranian parliament passed a bill requiring the government, "to revise its cooperation level with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). " The legislation was supported by the government. The vague wording of the bill’s text – it dictates no specific action, only a "revision of cooperation level" – is seen as a means of giving officials wide latitude in dealing with the issue of sanctions.
