Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi announced on Wednesday that Iran and Turkey have set a goal to boost their bilateral trade to $30 billion annually. Speaking before his departure to Ankara for a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Raisi expressed confidence in achieving this target, citing the capacities of both nations.
Raisi, who was invited by Erdoğan, emphasized Turkey’s role as a key economic partner for Iran. During his visit, the two countries are expected to sign significant documents to further enhance their trade and economic relations. The Iranian president also highlighted the importance of discussing regional issues, with the situation in the Palestinian territories being a top agenda item.
Both Iran and Turkey share a common stance in supporting “the resistance of the oppressed and strong Palestinians,” Raisi stated. He criticized the US and Western support for Israel, attributing it to the ongoing bombardments in Gaza. Raisi stressed the need to address ways to sever Israel’s “vital arteries” to halt its “crimes against Palestinians.”
Raisi expressed optimism that his visit would strengthen Iran-Turkey cooperation on multiple levels. Accompanied by a high-ranking political and economic delegation, this trip marks Raisi’s first visit to Turkey. The two leaders are set to hold a private meeting, co-chair the eighth Turkey-Iran High Level Cooperation Council, and conduct a joint press conference.
