Despite the American withdrawal from the Iranian nuclear agreement, the Iranians apparently want the deal to survive and are deep into the process of assessing its options. Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif traveled to Moscow to find out from Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday, the key focus apparently assurances that Iranian companies will be allowed to do business with European partners and that the banks will not run afoul of any US-based restrictions that could incur penalties. Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov is quoted as having told Zarif that Moscow will “defend and keep the agreement.”
