Iran: ‘Zionist-controlled’ US Government to Go Way of ‘Titanic’

Iranian leader Ali Khamenei says the United States will end up like the Titanic due to “wealthy Zionist individuals” he claims hold sway over the American economy. “Today, the epitome of rebellion, arrogance and tyranny is the US government, which is controlled by the wealthy Zionist individuals and corporate owners,” Iran’s supreme leader said. Khamenei seemed to be directing his comments to the US public ahead of the November election, suggesting that a Democratic president would better serve US interests. Tehran is currently reeling from sanctions re-imposed by President Donald Trump after he withdrew the US from a multilateral nuclear deal aimed at preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons. “These aren’t my words, but the words of a member of the US ruling body,” Khamenei added on Twitter. “He says over $100 [billion] has been added to the wealth of the 5 richest people in the US in the 3 years of Trump’s presidency. 3 of them own wealth equal to half the US population. Look at this social gap!” Notably, the comments come two days before Iran was set to hold parliamentary elections in which “hardliners” are expected to make gains due to tensions with the US.
