Iranian Leader Says No Benefit to U.S. Talks

Iran’s most powerful man said on Tuesday that there is nothing to be gained by talking to the United States about Iran’s nuclear program. While it is usually Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadi Nejad who captures the headlines with his often-outrageous comments, Ayatollah Ali Khameni holds the power. On Tuesday, Khameni told Iranian state-television that "Negotiations with the United States are of no use to us. We have no use for such negotiations… We will not negotiate with anyone over the undeniable right of nuclear technology and using it." Khamenei added that if the U.S. "recognizes this right, we are ready to negotiate over supervision controls." The U.S. has joined European nations in offering to trade Iran economic benefits if it suspends its nuclear development program.
