The Iranian parliament on Wednesday voted no-confidence in Science, Research and Technology Minister Reza Faraji Dana, ousting him from the legislative body. Dana was a pro-Western moderate, aligned with President Hassan Rohani. He ran afoul of the conservative majority in the parliament by defending pro-Western teachers who participated in opposition rallies after the 2009 controversial re-election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad sent protestors to the streets. The move is also seen as an escalation of friction between Rohani and the conservatives.
