Iranian members of parliament are sounding off against the arrests of journalists and social media contributors by the revolutionary Guard in advance of May’s election, but only one Member of Parliament has had the courage to finger the Revolutionary Guard for its part in the crackdown. The French news agency AFP is reporting that reformists and moderate members of the Rouhani government have been the primary targets of the Revolutionary Guard actions. In addition to a reformist MP who told the Guard in an open letter to stay out of politics, another MP is demanding that the intelligence minister provide details of the arrests of journalists. But the Revolutionary Guard answers only to the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei himself.
