The government of Iraq hanged seven men for alleged membership in Al-Qa’ida on Wednesday. The seven, who were citizens of various Arab nations, were arrested four years ago and found guilty of supporting the organization that gave birth to what became the Islamic State – ISIS. Those hanged were from Jordan, Syria, Palestine, Tunisia, Egypt and Libya. At least sixty other prisoners are being held on the same charges as the executed seven, but it is not known how many are also sentenced to death according to an official at Nasiriyah prison where the death sentences were carried out. That group includes nationals of Yemen, Saudi Arabia and Algeria. According to Amnesty International, Iraq has hanged 81 prisoners so far this year.
