Gunmen firing silenced weapons gunned down an Iraqi general on a Baghdad street on Wednesday night in the Monsour district of the capital. The general’s daughter was wounded in the shooting. A second attack, also with silenced weapons, took place in another Baghdad neighborhood the same evening. In that incident, a lieutenant colonel was wounded, also while he was driving. The two incidents came one day after Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki formed a government ten months after national elections. Not surprisingly, he named security as one of his three immediate goals.
