Iraqi Prisoner Swap: Brit Held 2 ½ Years for American-Held Fighter

British national Peter Moore was released after being held for 2½ years by anti-government forces in Baghdad. Moore was kidnapped at the Iraqi Finance Ministry in May 2007 along with four security guards. The bodies of three of the guards were delivered to the British Embassy earlier this year. The remains of the fourth have not been located but he is presumed to be dead. Moore’s release came after the United States released a leader of the kidnapping organization and 13 of its members to Iraqi authorities. Arriving at the British Embassy in Baghdad, Moore said that when he was blindfolded and taken from his room, he believed he was going to be executed. The prisoners released by the U.S. belonged to Asaib Ahl Al-Haq — The League of the Righteous – members of which the Americans have been repatriating since last September. Also in Iraq on Wednesday, 27 died and more than 100 were wounded in a pair of suicide bombings targeting members of Iraq’s Sunni Muslim population.
