ISIS Claims Responsibility for Ohio State Terror Attack

Responsibility for Tuesday’s terror attack at Ohio State University is being claimed by the Islamic State – ISIS. Eleven people were wounded, one critically, when a Somali with American citizenship first plowed through pedestrians with his car and then got out and began slashing passers-by with a butcher knife until being shot dead by a college security officer. In a statement put out through the ISIS “news agency” AMAQ, the terrorist group called the assailant, Abdul Razak Ali Artan, a “soldier” of ISIS. Authorities reported that Artan had posted ranting notices on his Facebook page warning the US to “stop meddling” in the Middle East. He wrote, “America! Stop interfering with…the Muslim Ummah,” using the Arabic term for the Muslim world. Of particular concern for security officials is that the incident appeared to represent another instance where a random operative was inspired rather than instructed to carry out a terror attack and does so with whatever weapon is available to him/her. Attempting death by vehicle and the use of knives commonly found in kitchens have been frequently the weapons of choice for more than 200 attackers who have tried to kill Israelis since October 2015. Those attacks appear to be the instructional template for others like Artan.
