ISIS Fires on Israeli Patrol; Retaliation is Quick, but Was it Thorough?

Syrian-based ISIS fighters fired at an Israeli army patrol on the Golan Heights on Sunday, prompting a quick response by the Israeli air force, which destroyed the source of incoming mortars and machinegun fire. Four ISIS terrorists killed in the retaliatory raid. On Monday, Israeli jets attacked a former United Nations facility inside Syria which had been used by ISIS but has since been abandoned. The Israelis said the target was chosen in order to prevent ISIS from returning to the site which is near the Syria-Israel border. Israeli military authorities are trying to determine whether the direct attack on the Israeli patrol is a one-off incident or whether it signals a change in tactics by ISIS since previous shelling into Israeli territory has been written off as “accidental” in the course of the battles between Syrian civil war combatants. The latest incident comes as fighting between forces loyal to President Assad and the rebels intensifies.
