Israel Calls Up Limited Reserves

Israel called up a few hundred reserve soldiers in advance of a possible strike on Syria and said it would move two Iron Dome anti-missile batteries to Israel’s north. Israeli officials said it was unlikely that Syria would respond to an American attack by hitting Israel, but they were prepared for any eventuality. They said it was more likely that Hizbullah guerillas could fire some of the 60,000 rockets they have aimed at Israel.

Israeli citizens are not panicking but there has been a run at gas mask distribution centers which have extended their hours. About half of Israeli citizens do not have gas masks despite the fact that they are given out free. Supermarkets have also reported that people are stocking up on food but said it was not clear if it was because of a potential US strike on Syria or the Jewish New Year which begins next week.
