Israel Closes Gaza Crossings after Rocket Attacks

The crossings allowing food trucks into the Gaza Strip were closed on Wednesday for a day, after Palestinians fired two rockets from Gaza into Israel on Tuesday. Islamic Jihad said it carried out the attack in response to an Israeli operation in the West bank at the start of the week. Islamic Jihad is not party to the Hamas-Israel truce, which came into force last Thursday. Hamas urged the various Palestinian “resistance movements” to show “self-control.” A senior Hamas lawmaker said this truce was unlike previous ones. “[They] were not under Arab auspices and did not impose any obligations on Israel,” said Mushir Al-Masri. At the same time Hamas issued a statement that “called on all concerned parties in the regional and international arenas to put pressure on the Israeli occupation government in order to stop its crimes against the Palestinian people in the West Bank.”
