Indications are that Israel will stand firm and act against the planned sequel to last May’s Gaza flotilla from Turkey. In what became an enormous public relations debacle for the Jewish state, naval commandoes were attacked by passengers aboard the Mavi Marmara and responded with life fire killing nine. More recently, Israel intercepted 50-tons of weapons sailing for Gaza in what the Israelis claimed was justification of its policy of blockading Gaza-bound ships to search for arms. Highly publicized plans to repeat the flotilla in June with the Mavi Marmara again serving as the primary vessel have sparked open discussions within the Israeli security echelon. On Wednesday, Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office announced the decision has been taken to enforce the blockade.
