Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Defense Minister Amir Peretz will learn on Monday afternoon whether they will be potentially forced into resigning from office or calling early elections with the publication of the interim report on the key investigation into last summer’s fighting in Lebanon. The Winograd Commission will publish recommendations concerning individuals who led the war with Hizbullah that was seen as a strategic disaster at home. Since the end of the fighting three top officers in the Israel Defense Forces have resigned, including the chief of staff. So far Olmert has said he intends seeing out his full term in office, but Peretz has been less forthcoming, and he is facing a Labor Party leadership challenge in the next few weeks.
