Israel In; Palestinians Out; for Bahrain Economic Workshop; Another Delay Likely for the Plan

Neither side was originally set to attend the U.S.-sponsored economic workshop in Bahrain later this month, but as the date draws near, Israel is fairly certain it will join the parley while the Palestinians have not altered their absolute rejection of any effort sponsored by the United States. For the Palestinian Authority, declaring Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem and the Golan Heights; and moving the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem are all seen as provocations and absolute proof that the Americans cannot serve as honest brokers. The PA worked feverishly to convince nations to stay away from the conference, but its efforts found few takers. While the Russians and Chinese said they’ll take a pass, ironically, virtually all of the Arab nations have accepted the American invitation to be in Bahrain on June 25 and 26. Speaking to Jerusalem Post editor-in-chief Yaakov Katz and an event in New York, Trump envoy Jason Greenblatt surprised no one when he revealed another possible delay in releasing the plan for the “Deal of the Century” – this time, until November. Most observers disagree with the Trump team spin that says moving the revelation into the election cycle will not negatively affect the effort. On the contrary, many are already urging that the plan be reserved for the second term – if there is one.
