Broad support is forming for a bill submitted to Israel’s parliament that would reduce the amount of funding the Palestinian Authority receives each month from Israel by an amount equivalent to stipends the PA pays to families of terrorists. Under terms of the 1993 Oslo Accords, Israel collects certain tariffs for the PA and turns the money over monthly. It’s not uncommon for Israel to withhold portions of the payments when a major issue or disagreement between the parties flares up. This time, however, with international voices expressing outrage at the payments, Israeli lawmakers are seizing the opportunity codify the blowback to the PA’s practice while simultaneously punishing the Palestinians. On Sunday, a Ministerial committee approved the bill which now must survive three readings before the entire body. The bill is also being strongly supported by an organization of Israeli victims of Arab terror.
