Israel and the Palestinian Authority signed an agreement on Thursday that will put the PA in control of the West Bank’s electricity supply. Until now, the PA has purchased most of its power from Israel, but as the result of the deal, Israel will build four new power plants for the PA which will take over the responsibility of distributing electricity to its population. The agreement does not include the Gaza Strip which remains under sever power shortages while the Fatah-run Palestinian Authority bickers with the Hamas rulers of the Gaza Strip. The landmark deal also comes after PA President Mahmoud Abbas declared an end to all contacts with the Jewish state and cooperation in American-led peace talks because President Trump acknowledged Jerusalem as the Israeli capital.
