Israel Responds to Incendiary Balloons With Strikes in Gaza
Israeli Air Force planes conducted limited airstrikes in Gaza Tuesday night in response to the dozens of explosive-laden balloons launched by Palestinians into Israel throughout the day. Tanks, helicopters and fighter jets bombed Hamas military facilities and underground infrastructure, the Israeli military said in a statement released Wednesday morning. “The terror organization Hamas is accountable for all that happens in the Gaza Strip,” the statement read. On Monday and Tuesday, nearly 100 small fires were ignited in southern Israel near the border with Gaza by incendiary balloons and kites. On Tuesday, Israel closed the Kerem Shalom border crossing for all supplies and equipment going into Gaza except for humanitarian aid and essential fuels.
