Israeli troops are bracing for unrest at the funeral of 15-year-old Mahmoud Badran, who was shot and killed by Israeli troops on Tuesday on his way home from a swimming pool in the West Bank. The Israeli military originally accused Badran and four other teenagers with him in the car of throwing stones at Israeli cars in the area, but later said his death was a “mistake.” Palestinian officials called the killing a “cold-blooded assassination” and called for international protection of Palestinians. The Israeli human rights group Btselem slammed the shooting saying it was a “direct result of military policy which enables, despite the official prohibition in the open-fire regulations, to use deadly fire even in cases where there is no threat to life.”
