Israel Reveals a “Nobody Home” Strategy in Case of War with Hizbullah

A new strategy to be implemented in case of another war between Israel and the Lebanon-based, Iranian-supported Hizbullah terrorists, has been revealed in an exclusive report by the Israeli daily Haaretz. If the report is accurate, the traditional – some say sacrosanct – doctrine of never abandoning a community under fire will be suspended in favor of an orderly evacuation of some 78,000 residents of the northern part of the country that will accomplish two goals: it will allow the army greater movement and latitude in staging its counter-assault against Hizbullah fighters and it will deprive the jihadists of the public relations victory and encouragement achieved through Israeli civilian casualties. Haaretz reports the plan, which is the combined work of the outgoing and incoming heads of the Home Front Command, is called “Safe Distance.” Those who will be evacuated are those whose homes are in range of the Burqan rocket – some 4 kilometers from the border with Lebanon. According to the report, military planners are realistic regarding who will and will not cooperate with the evacuation. About 25% of the residents are expected to leave their homes willingly while some will remain because of the roles they play in time of war and others, according to the army, “will need help.” The military believes that if Israel goes to war with Hizbullah, Hamas in the south will enter the fray. Accordingly, a similar plan has been worked out for the communities located near the Gaza Strip.
