Israelis have been simultaneously transfixed and horrified by two ghastly murders in which children were the victims. A child’s mother and grandfather, alleged to be in an intimate relationship, reportedly killed a four-year-old girl, stuffed her body into a suitcase and threw her into a river. Police have been unable to locate the child’s body, and are draining a section of the Yarkon River near Tel Aviv as part of the search. In the other case, a four-year-old boy was intentionally drowned by his allegedly psychologically disturbed 42-year-old mother on Thursday night. In that case, police suspect a history of violence against the child and may charge the boy’s father with failure to prevent a criminal act.
