Relations between Israel and Turkey are spiraling downward at a speed not seen since the Mavi Marmara incident in 2010. Claiming it was in response to the loss of life associated with the rioting along the Israel-Gaza Strip border, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent Israel’s ambassador and consul-general home causing Prime Minister Netanyahu to respond in-kind. On his way home, the Israeli ambassador was abused and humiliated at the Istanbul Airport. More recently it was reported that two Israeli journalists who were speaking in Hebrew as they set up equipment in Istanbul’s Taksim Square were “shoved and cursed,” hit while being called “murderers.”
