Israel Unveils New Jerusalem Projects; Palestinians as UN to Prevent “Juda-ization”

For some, it was exciting news: Prime Minister Netanyahu unveiled plans to build a cable car from what is known as the “First Station” – the train depot dating back to 1892 — to the Dung Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem to facilitate access to the Western Wall. But Palestinian critics of the project and the Palestinian Foreign Ministry charged that the project is one more piece with which Israel’s Tourism Ministry acts as “a tool to enforce the perception of Jerusalem as a Jewish city.” The ministry has called upon the United Nations Security Council to intervene to prevent the cable car and other construction projects in Jerusalem. Palestinian media has also joined efforts to combat what is being called the “Judaization” of Jerusalem. One daily informed its readers that, “Donald Trump has been an outspoken supporter of Israel, despite issuing some lukewarm criticisms of Israeli policies since his inauguration.
