Israeli Army Disciplines Commander in Charge of Soldiers who Assaulted Reporters

The army officer in charge of the troops involved in the manhandling of two reporters for the French news agency AFP has been suspended according to an Israeli army spokesman. But for those involved and their agency, the army action is insufficient. Last Friday, video captured soldiers pushing two AFP photojournalists and destroying their cameras. The action against the officer was said to be an “immediate” remedy while investigations continue regarding the actions and possible disciplinary action against other soldiers involved in the incident. The Foreign Press Association, the organization representing journalists from outside of Israel who cover the region, issued a scathing censure of the army following the incident.
