Israeli Army Kills Leading Bomb Maker

The Israeli army ended its most recent ground operation inside the Gaza Strip, and killed one of the most senior Fatah operatives and a leader of one of the terrorist groups responsible for kidnapping one of its soldiers. Troops supported by armored vehicles began withdrawing from GazaCity early Thursday morning after six days of operations that left 18 Palestinians dead and uncovered a tunnel dug between the Gaza Strip and Israel. The reinforced tunnel was at least 40 feet deep and almost 500 feet long, and is believed to have been intended to facilitate another raid like the one which resulted in the kidnapping of Cpl. Gilad Shalit on the 25th of June. On Thursday morning, Israeli troops killed Raad Al-Najah, a senior Popular Resistance Committee official, in the Al-Shati refugee camp in Gaza. The PRC is one of the three groups that participated in the cross-border raid that resulted in Shalit’s capture. Also early Thursday morning in the West Bank city of Nablus, Israeli troops shot and killed Fadi Khafisha, a leader of Al Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, whom Israel says was a senior bomb maker. Al Aqsa is an arm of Fatah, which is headed by Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud ‘Abbas.
