Comments on Tuesday by Israeli Health Minister Yael German indicate the government plans to rescue the crisis-ridden Hadassah hospitals with investment of “hundreds of millions of shekels.” In an address to the Israel Medical Association, German said, “The State of Israel plans to invest hundreds of millions of shekels to rehabilitate Hadassah, but only in exchange for an agreement that will guarantee that Hadassah will be able to maintain economic and corporate independence for generations to come.” German indicated that the plan being discussed would leave the iconic institutions in the hands of the Hadassah Medical Organization, a major relief for the New York-based group that has, for generations, been synonymous with Israeli health care.
