Israeli Human Rights Watchdog: Fewer Deaths in 2007

The Israeli Human Rights organization B’Tzelem said in its year-end report that 2007 saw almost half-as-many Palestinians killed by Israelis as the previous year. There were also fewer deaths due to "collateral damage" —victims not directly involved in hostilities. Six Israeli civilians were killed by Palestinians, the lowest annual total since the period of unbridled violence began in September 2000. In fact, records B’Tzelem, 2007 saw the most Palestinians ever killed by other Palestinians in one year, largely as a result of the internecine fighting leading up to the Hamas takeover in the Gaza Strip.
