Israeli intelligence, according to Palestinian sources, reportedly told the parents of 27-year old Mustafa Nimir that his death on Monday, when Border Police shot at his car thinking he was attempting to run them over, was “a mistake.” Nimir’s father told the Ma’an news agency that Israeli authorities summoned him to a police station where he was informed that a police investigation determined that Nimir was not planning to use his vehicle as a weapon. The incident took place near an ongoing clash between police and Palestinian demonstrators at the Shuafat refugee camp in east Jerusalem. Mustafa’s brother-in-law, Ali, was injured in the incident and taken to Hadassah Hospital where he remains under arrest on a charge of driving without a license.
