Israeli Motorist Shot in Roadside Shooting; Terrorism Probable Motive

Gunmen hiding in bushes along a roadside in post-1967 territory on Tuesday night shot an Israeli driver. The driver, who was hit in the hand, managed to continue driving to the security office of a nearby community where he received medical assistance and raised the alarm. The incident was the fourth in four months, and again, the assailants escaped. Jewish residents of post-1967 areas are claiming the upsurge in terror attacks is the direct result of the army’s removal of scores of checkpoints and roadblocks as goodwill gestures to the Palestinian population. Two more Qassam rockets fired from the Gaza Strip landed inside of Israel on Tuesday. With the reappearance of regular firings, some security officials are predicting a major escalation in rocket firings. Analysts at The Media Line suggest that with Israel ‘on the ropes’ from massive international criticism following the Goldstone Report, Hamas has an unexpected opportunity to taunt the Israelis by repeating the same provocation that caused the January operation knowing full-well that Israel’s response in the face of the Goldstone fiasco will be severely restrained.
