West Bank Story, a musical comedy parody of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, has won the Oscar for Best Live Action Short Film at the 79th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday. Filmmaker Ari Sandel spoofed the classic West Side Story with a plot involving tensions between the owners of Palestinian humous and Israeli felafel stands competing side by side, while an Israeli soldier falls in love with the daughter of the humous family. Sandel’s version, however, ends on a more optimistic note.
