Israeli Prime Minister’s Wife Finalizes Plea Bargain

The wife of Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has finalized a plea agreement in a case in which she was accused of “deliberately exploiting someone’s mistake.” Sara Netanyahu allegedly ordered-in more than $100,000 worth of food that was illegal because a full-time chef works in the Prime Ministers Residence. She will pay some $12,000 in restitution and fines, but the charges have all been reduced. Although Mrs. Netanyahu’s saga ends (several cases removed from the picture), the Prime Minister himself is facing numerous indictments within days. The indictments will be handed down while the PM is preoccupied with the upcoming September 17 election – a situation he believes is unfair. He sought a delay, was refused, and the courts agreed that no extra time is due. The specter of the corruption cases has left a number of unusual issues to deal with from the impact of indictments on the electoral process to the possible substitution of candidates.
