Israeli Strike Kills Many in S. Lebanese Village

A Sunday morning Israeli air strike on the south Lebanese village of Qana has reportedly killed at least 55 residents, including at least 21 children. A three-story building hit by Israeli missiles fired from warplanes collapsed. The village was being targeted because Hizbullah had been firing Katyusha rockets from there. In all, more than 40 targets were hit by the warplanes, including rocket launchers and bridges. On Saturday, Israeli jets bombed the main crossing point between Lebanon and Syria, closing it to traffic. Pinpoint strikes hit the road between the Lebanese and Syrian immigration points, but no one was hurt in the action. According to Israeli sources, the goal of the attack was to prevent further delivery of arms to Hizbullah from Syria. The Israelis continue to stress that there are no plans to strike at Syria or to act in a way that will bring Syria into the conflict.
