Israeli Team Banned From Belgian Frisbee Tournament Over Security Concerns
Organizers of an international frisbee tournament in Belgium have banned the Israeli team from participating, citing security concerns linked to anti-Israel protests.
The European Ultimate Federation announced the decision following the postponement of all matches on Tuesday, which was the scheduled start of the European Youth Ultimate Championship 2024 in Gent. The delay came after anti-Israel activists spray-painted slogans on a tournament venue in De Pinte, near Gent.

In a statement, the Federation said that the municipality of Gent had prohibited the participation and presence of the Israeli delegation, along with any references related to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
“We are disappointed to have to make this sad announcement and for the overall outcome for all teams who have worked so hard to train and get to the event. We must, however respect and follow the instructions given by the authorities,” the statement read.
The tournament is set to continue without the 33 Israeli athletes who had traveled to Belgium for the event, which features hundreds of competitors from 11 countries.
A municipal decree from Gent’s city government indicated a high risk of public order disruption due to the presence of the Israeli team, stating that organizations oppose Israel’s participation because of the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
