Israeli Troops to Be Out of Lebanon by Friday

Israel plans to have the last of its troops out of Lebanon by Friday, according to its army Chief of General Staff. Lt.-Gen. Dan Halutz told a parliamentary committee that his estimate was based on everything going "without a hitch." Although according to the United Nations resolution that ended the 34-day war, 15,000 international peacekeeping troops were supposed to have been in place before Israeli withdrew, the Israelis are pulling out with about 4,900 still in place. Halutz reportedly told the committee that Hizbullah had complied with its obligations, including keeping its fighters out of uniform and unarmed. He also said Israel had seen no indication of additional weaponry arriving from Iran or Syria.
