Israel‘s chief of army intelligence warned lawmakers on Tuesday that Hamas was planning a major terrorist attack as the nation’s Independence Day nears. Celebrations begin next week and run through May 16 when U.S. President George W. Bush leaves following a three-day visit to participate in festivities. Gen. Amos Yadlin told the cabinet that Hamas would probably focus on an Israel-Gaza Strip crossing point, its preference being to re-create the mass incursion into Egypt that took place in January, but this time with a rush into Israel. He described the Hamas fallback military option of using snipers and explosives along the border in an attempt to kill and capture Israelis.
