Israel’s Culture Ministry To Issue Modesty Guidelines

In a debate that seems the mirror image of the controversy in France over the burkini ban, Israel’s Ministry of Culture said will issue guideline to production companies on modest dress for performers at state-sponsored events. “Festivals and events funded by public money will respect the general public, which includes different communities,” a ministry official said. The announcement came after an incident in the port city of Ashdod during which singer Hanna Goor performed in shorts, a bikini top and an open button-down shirt. Goor, who competed on the Israeli reality show “A Star is Born” told the Ha’aretz newspaper that a production representative went on stage during her performance and asked to “to get dressed.” She said she refuse, and that she was taken off the stage without finishing her set. An official from the Ministry of Culture denied that she was removed prematurely.
