Israel’s Diaspora Affairs Minister Makes Waves Back Home

Israeli Diaspora Affairs Minister Amichai Chikli commended Marine Le Pen, leader of France’s National Rally Party (NRP), following her participation in a march against rising antisemitism and her strong objection against recognizing a Palestinian state—positions that align with the Likud member’s conservative, pro-Israel stance.

However, the minister’s endorsement has proved controversial due to Le Pen and her party’s far-right political identity, which has historically been associated with nationalist and exclusionary policies. This development comes amid the NRP’s significant, albeit insufficient, electoral success in France’s recent legislative rounds, where they secured 143 seats. 

In an exclusive interview with Maayan Hoffman, Chikli steadfastly defends his praise for Le Pen and criticizes French President Emmanuel Macron’s political maneuvers, particularly his alliance with Jean-Luc Mélenchon of the far-left France Unbowed Party, which many French Jews perceive as a betrayal.
