Israel’s Philadelphi Operation Concludes

Israel’s military operation aimed at uncovering tunnels dug between the southern Gaza Strip and Egypt along the corridor known as the Phildelphia Route concluded on Tuesday. Israel claims "Operation Squeezed Fruit" yielded 15 tunnels, the sort used to smuggle arms from Egypt to terrorist groups inside the Palestinian Authority. Although the operation was declared to be over, the army appears to be planning to return to Gaza within a few days. Farther north, Israel fired missiles at Qassam rocket launchers from drone aircraft Tuesday morning. Three Qassams were fired on Monday evening, two of which landed in the Israeli town of Sderot. There was damage to vehicles but no injuries were reported. Two people were treated for shock. Also on Monday, Israeli soldiers clashed with gunmen in the northern Gaza Strip. Seven Palestinians died in the firefight and 35 were wounded. Three were identified as civilians.
