Jordan Advances Toward Food Security With First National Seed Bank

Jordan is making strides in agricultural innovation with the construction of its first national seed bank, a project currently 30% complete and expected to finish in 2024. Announced by Agriculture Minister Khaled Musa Al Henefat, the initiative aims to bolster national food security. Developed in collaboration with Jordan’s Hashemite University, the seed bank in the capital city of Amman will serve as a critical research and conservation facility. It will focus on the seeds of local natural plants, particularly preserving genetic resources vital for food and agriculture. This project, the state-run Petra news agency reports, represents a significant step forward in safeguarding Jordan’s agricultural heritage and ensuring future food sustainability.
