Jordan Halts Production of Film Implying Jewish Ties to Country

According to the Associated Press, the Jordanian government has intervened to halt production on a film that implies the Jewish people has historical ties to the country. The movie, “Jaber,” sparked public outrage in Jordan after the plot was shared online. The film’s lead character, a Jordanian boy, discovers a stone in Petra containing Hebrew writing. Once the Israeli government finds out, it dispatches a team to retrieve the relic “at any cost.” Opponents of the script contend that depicting Jewish ties to Jordan could prompt Israel to advance territorial claims in the neighboring nation. Amman is reportedly reviewing the script and will thereafter suggest modifications to it. The two countries in 1994 signed an official peace treaty, although bilateral relations remain frigid. Israel’s Foreign Ministry declined to comment on the matter.
