Jordan Sees Significant Surge in Tourism Revenue in Early 2023

Jordan’s tourism sector posted a notable revenue increase of 84.5% in the first quarter of 2023, amassing approximately $2.2 billion, according to the Tourism Ministry’s monthly bulletin. The state-run Petra news agency reported on Wednesday that the country saw nearly 2 million visitors from January to April, almost double last year’s figure for the same period. These visits substantially boosted tourism revenue. In the first four months, overnight tourists jumped to about 1.6 million, marking a 78.7% increase, while the number of day tourists soared by 137.1% to 360,000, the Central Bank of Jordan noted. For April alone, tourism income rose by 73.5% compared to the same month in 2022, totaling $543.2 million. The surge reflects Jordan’s tourism industry’s robust recovery after the global travel disruptions caused by the pandemic.
