Mohammad Elayyan, 23, has managed to invent a way to test for diabetes by exhaling through a mobile phone. Elayyan, who holds a BA in Electrical Engineering, says the system analyzes users’ exhaled breath and registers the blood sugar level without the need for needles. The idea, he says, was sparked by the fact that most people do not leave their homes without their cellphones, so he decided to continue his research in order to get to the point where cellphones can be used for this examination. He said he is confident that his invention will help diabetic patients know far easier than other means used to examine the level of sugar in the blood.
