Kenya, Somali Gov’t Call for Help to End Somalis Suffering

In most countries a day without a government, police officers, hospitals and a local bank is problematic, a month would be unimaginable. In Somalia that has been the norm for 16 years. That was the way Kenya’s Foreign Minister Raphael Tuju appealed to the international community to come to the rescue of Somali civilians. He brought the topic to center stage at the United Nations General Assembly, alongside his counterpart in the Somali Transitional Federal Government Isma’il Muhammad Hurreh. “Why has the world not come to the rescue of the war-torn nation?” they asked. Hurreh accused the Islamic Courts Union of taking over the country while violating all previous agreements. The ICU now controls all but one city in the key southern part of the country.
